FAQ

Everything people ask before switching to a plastic-free brush — answered straight.

Are KYND toothbrushes really 100% plastic-free?

Yes — handle, bristles, and packaging. The handle is bamboo. The bristles are natural horsehair, not nylon. It's sealed with beeswax, not glue or resin. No plastic, no plastic derivatives, nothing synthetic anywhere in the brush. Most "eco" brushes can't say that, because the bristles are still plastic.

Aren't bamboo toothbrushes already plastic-free?

Usually not — and this is the part most brands stay quiet about. The handle is bamboo, but the bristles are almost always nylon. Nylon is plastic, made from petroleum. Bamboo handle, plastic bristles. You're still dragging microplastics across your teeth twice a day. The handle was never the problem. The bristles are. KYND uses horsehair, so there's no nylon anywhere.

Is the horsehair cruelty-free? Where does it come from?

Yes. The hair is grooming-sourced — collected during the routine grooming horses get anyway. No animal is harmed, and nothing is bred or killed for it. It's a natural by-product that would otherwise be thrown out, given a second life as something genuinely useful. The alternative, nylon, is drilled, refined, and never breaks down. Horsehair is the kinder material on both counts.

Are natural bristles hygienic?

Yes. Every batch of bristles is sterilised to a medical-grade standard before it reaches you. After that, care is the same as any toothbrush: rinse it well, shake off the water, and stand it upright to air-dry. Natural bristles hold a little more moisture than plastic, so letting it dry fully between uses keeps it fresh.

How long does the 4-pack last?

About a year. Dentists recommend a fresh brush every three months — four brushes, four quarters, one box. No subscription to manage, no reorder to remember.

Can I compost the brush and the packaging?

Yes — the whole thing. The packaging breaks down quickly. The brush is all natural material, so it composts too, though the bamboo handle takes the longest; snapping it into smaller pieces speeds it up. Compare that to a standard plastic brush, which sits in landfill for roughly 500 years.

Are they good for sensitive gums?

Yes — arguably better. Horsehair is naturally soft and flexes more than stiff nylon, so it's gentle on gums and enamel while still clearing plaque. If nylon brushes have ever felt scratchy or made your gums recede, this is a noticeably softer feel.

Where do you ship from, and what does shipping cost?

We ship from the Netherlands. Shipping across the EU is free on orders over €60. Rates and delivery times for other regions are shown at checkout.

What if I'm not happy with it?

Does every order really plant a tree?

Yes. Every order funds one tree through Ecologi, our reforestation partner — vetted projects, right trees, right places. One swap removes plastic from your bathroom and adds a tree to the planet.
